Otis Hicks, better known as Lightnin' Slim is one of my favorit Blues musicians. He was Born on 13 March 1913 in Good Pine/LA. When he was 13 his Family relocated to Baton Rouch. His older brother taught him to play guitar and by the late 1940's he played in the Bar's and Juke Joints in Louisiana and Mississippi. In 1954 he recorded his first record "Bad Luck Blues" with J.D.Miller's Feature Records. Soon after he got a recording contract with Excello Records which lastet for 12 years. In 1966 he quit recording and performing and got himself a Job as foundry man. By 1970 Fred Reif got him a new recording contract with Excello and than with british Label Flyright.
He performed very often with his brother in law Slim Harpo and harp Player Lazy Lester. In his later Career harp Player Moses Whispering Smith was the man by his side.
He toured Europe and performed with many well known blues musicinans. His career came to a sudden end when he died of stomach Cancer on 27 July 1974 in Detroit.
